Assignment of equipment and structures to a safety category

The designer shall assign each structure and each item of equipment to an appropriate safety category, primarily according to the highest level of the safety function they perform as follows  

Highest safety function level performed Safety category 

Safety category II and non-safety category structures and equipment shall be designed to appropriate codes (Chapter 2-5 gives the general outline, which will be specified in more detail in Volume 3).
