Assembly of Apparatus

The classic Bimsen support with its clamps and brackets is still the most frequently used framework for assembling apparatus. There are various newer variations of it which eliminate the movement of the clamps when the brackets are tightened. [Pg.4]

It is sometimes advantageous to employ a burette with an extended jet which is bent twice at right angles so that the tip of the jet is displaced by some 7.5-10 cm from the body of the burette. Insertion of the tip of the burette into complicated assemblies of apparatus is thus faci itated, and there is a further advantage, that if heated solutions have to be titrated the body of the burette is kept away from the source of heat. Burettes fitted with two-way stopcocks are useful for attachment to reservoirs of stock solutions. [Pg.84]

At a second stage the student or technician accepts more responsibility in the experiment planning. Thus although instruction sheets (or book references) are suitably detailed, a level of technical competence in routine operations acquired from earlier work is now expected. Furthermore, the assembly of apparatus, the... [Pg.31]

Often in the assembly of apparatus, joint adapters are required if the joint sizes of the various parts are not compatible. A reduction adapter is illustrated in Fig. 2.11 and an expansion adapter in Fig. 2.12 numerous combinations are of course possible, but it must be emphasised, however, that in a well-designed assembly of apparatus the number of adapters should be reduced to a minimum and, best of all, completely eliminated. [Pg.59]

The entire reaction, including the assembly of apparatus, weighing of reagents, and isolation of the products, is now carried out inside the dry box. With some experience, it is possible to perform these operations with little more difficulty than is encountered when one works on an open bench top. [Pg.222]

More detailed instructions for carrpng out distillations are given in section 4.14. Information about the assembly of apparatus and the starting of the process is given in sections 9.3 and 9.5, respectively. [Pg.46]

Pilot plant and semi-technical distillation apparatus made of glass requires special connections, clamps and frameworks. It may suffice here to refer the reader to the catalogues of the glassware manufacturers. Some firms even send crews for the assembly of apparatus. As an example Fig. 424 shows a framework of galvanized tubes joined by means of sockets with Inibus screws. [Pg.488]

Assembly of Apparatus—Immediately remove the vapor chamber from the water bath and couple the filled liquid chamber to the vapor chamber as quickly as possible without spillage. When the vapor chamber is removed from the water bath, connect it to the liquid chamber without undue movement that could promote exchange of room temperature air with the 37.8 C (1(X) F) air in the chamber. Not more than 10 s shall elapse between removing the vapor chamber from the water bath and completion of the coupling of the two chambers. [Pg.114]
