Architecting It All

A PROBLEM SHARED, DISTRIBUTED DATA AS YET UNSHARED, AND KNOWLEDGE FROM IT [Pg.323]

The Engines of Hippocrates From the Dawn of Medicine to Medical and Pharmaceutical Informatics, by Barry Robson and O.K. Baek Copyright 2009 by John Wiley Sons, Inc. [Pg.323]

Data federation systems with query interfaces do allow the human being to extract the knowledge using the invaluable natural computer between his or her ears, but the veritable tsunami of data that is starting to pour in exhausts the number of experts and the time that they have to do such a chore. [Pg.325]

From the statements above it is clear that most thinkers in the field would consider that the developments to be described later fail to capture and utilize the full answer as to what knowledge is. The sense in that field is, however, that steps are being made in the right direction. There is much to be built that is pressingly needed without needing to understand the true nature of knowledge, because at least we know it when we see it. And the idea anyway is that currently emerging systems architectures as health informatics solutions and biomedical informatics solutions will provide the essential bedrock for what comes next. [Pg.325]

Computers handle it and enable it, but knowledge is still the mysterious beast that somehow they help manage, tame, and even farm, but cannot harness 100% without human experts. [Pg.326]
