Application of Arene Complexes

Arene complexes are utilized for the preparation of metallic layers which are deposited on various surfaces (See Table 2.31). They are also used for the preparation of highly pure metals. This is especially true for chromium group compounds. Pyrolytic decomposition of arene complexes found application for deposition of chromium on magnesium oxide in order to prepare the catalyst for dehydration of isopropyl alcohol.

Since catalytic applications of arene complexes have been thoroughly discussed in general reviews on organometallic catalysts (cf. Andretta et al., 1970 Harmon et al., 1973 Dolcetti and Hoffman, 1974 and James, 1973), this last section stresses only important or recent developments in this area.
