Anxious clients

Anxious clients usually present to the primary care physician before seeing a mental health professional.

As a part of creating a safe, comfortable relationship, make your therapy space more like a home than an office, clinic, or hospital. Pleasant pictures, not framed credentials, should create the ambience. When clients are especially frightened, begin by suggesting that they look around your space to see how pleasing and safe it is. Very anxious people often begin relaxing when they realize that they are not in an office as much as in a comfort zone. 

These medications can work quickly to address the anxiety symptoms that frequently lead to panic. Furthermore, using a medication in this category can help in getting the client to agree to psychosocial intervention efforts. 

Client to make a list of what he/she is anxious about in past and present (complete in session with worker). Encourage client to share feelings of anxiety and develop healthy self-talk as a means of handling anxiety. Assign participation in recreational activities and reinforce social activities and verbalizations. 

The elderly client diagnosed with a panic attack disorder is in the busy day room of a long-term care facility and appears anxious, is starting to hyperventilate, is trembling, and is sweating. Which action should the nurse implement first ...
