I have three categories of regulation, Anti-trust, Economic, and Product or Process Standards. The latter category requires a further sub-division into specifications and judgmental standards. This, of course, is not meant to be a complete list of all the types of regulations we have. This categorization is simply those major regulation types that have been reported to have an impact on innovation. [Pg.34]

A host of other government agencies have an impact, in one way or another, upon the nation s food and nutrition. The Federal Trade Commission regulates food advertising and the application of anti-trust laws. The Office of Education supports educational research. [Pg.779]

There are a variety of policy responses that might be deployed to ameliorate the five market failures. One of these responses, legal liability, has already been introduced. There are other responses that have yet to be described anti-trust powers, information provision, insurance requirements and safety regulation. These responses are shown on the vertical axis of the matrix in Table 17.1. Along the horizontal axis are the five market failures. A "X" in a cell of the matrix indicates which market failures can be ameliorated with each policy response. [Pg.131]
