Anti-inflammatory inhibitor

The four lactones, kallolides 82-85, isolated from Pseudopterogorgia hallos (Bielschowsky) by Look et al. [54], are closely related to the cembrolide class of compounds and possess the pseudopterane skeleton (i.e. 62). Among these diterpenoids, the major metabolite kallolide 83, displays the same efficacy as the anti-inflammatory inhibitor, indomethacin (see table 1). [Pg.175]

Tolrestat (28) is a long-acang aldose reductase inhibitor useful in the prophylaxis of diabetic neuropathy, retinopathy, and cataracts [24 25] Lastly, the intro-ducuon of fluorine into steroids probably ushered in the modem era of fluonnated drugs Many commercial products were introduced [2] Typical of the products are the anti inflammatory glucocorticoids dexamethasone (29 X = F, Y = H), para-methasone (29, X = H, Y = F), and flumethasone (29, X = H, Y = F)... [Pg.1124]

Several other research teams used the Paal-Knorr condensation to prepare 2,5-disubstituted furans that were investigated as potential enzyme inhibitors. Nagai produced furan 17 via treatment of dione 16 with sulfuric acid and subsequently examined the activity of 17 toward a retenoic acid receptor. Perrier discovered that furan 19, derived from dione 18, is a potent PDE4 inhibitor and may have anti-inflammatory activity. ... [Pg.170]

New Chapters—new chapters are included, such as Chapter 33, Cholinesterase Inhibitors, and Chapter 18, Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Dragp. Several of the chapters in previous editions have been divided. For example, the chapter on antiviral and antifungal drugs was divided into two chapters Chapter 14, Antiviral Drags, and Chapter 15, Antifungal Drugs. [Pg.687]

Unlike aspirin and other cyclooxygenase inhibitors that work on the COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes, acetaminophen works on the COX-3 enzyme, which is present in the spinal column and brain. This helps it to avoid shutting down prostaglandin function elsewhere in the body, which is why it has no anti-inflammatory effects and does not affect blood platelets or the stomach lining. [Pg.183]

Like aspirin, ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It is a cyclooxygenase inhibitor that interferes with COX-1 and COX-2 forms of that enzyme. Its effects on COX-2 give it fever-reducing (antipyretic), analgesic (pain relief), and anti-inflammatory functions. [Pg.183]

It may be possible to increase the utility of our resources to treat influenza virus infection through combinations of antiviral agents with different modes of action (discussed in Cinatl et al. 2007a De Clercq and Neyts 2007). The sialidase inhibitors, for example, may be able to be used in conjunction with the adamantane-based M2 ion channel inhibitors (Govorkova et al. 2004 Ilyushina et al. 2006), with Ribavirin (Smee et al. 2002) or with non-influenza virus specific therapeutics such as anti-inflammatory drugs (Carter 2007). Combination therapy may also reduce the potential of resistance development (Ilyushina et al. 2006). [Pg.145]
