Annex S - Differences between 1996 and 2004 versions

ANSI/ISA-84.01-1996 is recognized as a good engineering practice for the design, operation, maintenance, inspection, and testing of safety instrumented systems by many owners/operators. ANSI/ISA-84.00.01-2004-1 builds upon ANSI/ISA-84.01-1996, using an enhanced SIS lifecycle that includes  

1) requirements for activities that were not covered due to scope limitations of ANSI/ISA-84.01-1996  

The following is a brief overview of requirements of ANSI/ISA-84.00.01-2004-1, highlighting some of the significant differences between ANSI/ISA-84.01-1996 and ANSI/ISA-84.00.01-2004-1. It is important that the reader of this clause be familiar with the content of ANSI/ISA-84.01-1996. A summary of the differences by topic is provided in Table 4-1.
