Anisoin

The above appears to be a general reaction for converting a-hydroxy ketones into diketones in excellent yield thus furoin and anisoin give furil and anisil respectively. The reaction is probably ... [Pg.715]

A reduction in the amount of tin lowers the yield. Best results are obtained using powdered tin of between 100 and 200 mesh size. Use of tin coarser than 100 mesh results in the presence of unchanged anisoin, while tin finer than 200 mesh tends to conglomerate, causing lower yields. The checkers used tin obtained from E. H. Sargent Co., Chicago, labeled 200 mesh. [Pg.17]

The classic and most convenient synthesis of the indole moiety is that of Emil Fischer. Recent examples of its use for drug synthesis includes one preparation of the nonsteroidal antiinflammatory agent, indoxole (2). Reaction of ketone 1 with phenylhydrazine in acetic acid leads directly to indoxole (2). Alternately, anisoin (3) can be reacted... [Pg.340]

Substitution products react like benzaldehyde itself (anisaldehyde gives anisoin). Similarly furfural gives furoin. (Write out the equation.)... [Pg.223]

Chemical/Physical. Hydrolysis at common aquatic pHs produced anisoin, anisil, HCl, and 2,2-bis(p-methoxyphenyl)-l,l-dichloroethylene (estimated half-life = 270 d at 25 °C and pH 7.1) (Wolfe et al, 1977). At pH >10, 2,2-bis(p-methoxyphenyl)-l,l-dichloroethylene is the only reported product. At pH <10, anisoin is formed (Kollig, 1993). [Pg.715]

Until quite recently, few 2,3-diarylbenzo[6]thiophenes had been prepared. 2,3-I)i(p-methoxyphenyl)benzo[6]thiophene is obtained in only 1.9% yield by heating a mixture of anisoin, thiophenol, and... [Pg.212]

In the classical student preparation of aniline - granular tin and hydrochloric acid is just as satisfactory as the more expensive stannous chloride because the product is isolated, after alkalinization, by steam distillation. However, for reduction of anthraquinone to anthrone the SnCU-HCl-AcOH method (see Stannous chloride) seems preferable to the Sn-HCl-AcOH method because it eliminates a troublesome filtration of the hot acid solution and because the yield is 10% better. In those cases where the metal alone has been used it is not clear whether the chloride was tried and found unsatisfactory or merely not tried. A procedure for the reduction of anisoin to desoxyanisoin specifies use of 200-mesh tin in 40% excess of the theory, and a note states that reduction in the amount of metal reduces the yield. [Pg.587]

The equation representing the oxidation of benzoin to benzil has been given under the preceding preparation. The analogues of benzoin also give, on oxidation, compounds of the benzil series. Thus from anisoin and cuminoin, anisil and cuminil respectively are obtained ... [Pg.279]

Derivation From anethole hydrobromide, from ani-sole, from anisoin. [Pg.423]
