Anion exchange columns latex coated

A unique anion-exchange column has been developed that has a thin (non-diffusion limited) anion-exchange phase coated onto a 10-/nm latex bead. When a mobile phase of 0.15 M NaOH is used, neutral carbohydrates are converted into anions, which are separated on the column. Although the resin has low capacity, and probably causes degradation of the carbohydrates, when it is coupled to a triple-pulsed, amperometric detector, the system provides extremely sensitive, high-resolution separations.

The major commercial anion exchangers for ion chromatography are based on two substrate types macroporous and microporous (or gel-type) materials. Microporous substrates are used primarily as supports for pellicular, latex-coated beads. This type of column is efficient and versatile. Many different column types with different selec-... 

The anion-exchangers described in Tables 6.4, 6.5 and 6.6 are not latex-coated but their exchange groups are mostly in a narrow band near the outside perimeter of the spherical ion-exchange particle. In some instances the ion-exchange part of the particle consists of a functionalized polymer grafted onto the outer surfaces of the substrate.
