Angle turning

As with other types of rotating machinery, an axial compressor can be described by a cylindrical coordinate system. The Z axis is taken as running the length of the compressor shaft, the radius r is measured outward from the shaft, and the angle of rotation 6 is the angle turned by the blades in Figure 7-2. This coordinate system will be used throughout this discussion of axial-flow compressors. [Pg.275]

The development of new ID and 2D pulse sequences enables the spectroscopist to obtain structure and dynamic information about systems that were previously very hard to study. As an example is reported in Fig. 3.2.13 the 2D spectrum of erythromycin A measured with the FIREMAT (Five p Replicated Magic Angle Turning ) technique [30]. The slow spinning speed of 390 Hz produces a spinning sideband pattern for each peak in one dimension, whereas a multipulse sequence in combination with a special processing method produces isotropic lines in the second dimension. [Pg.278]

The relation thus formulated is capable of immediate generalization. Consider in the first place, as an example with one degree of freedom, the case already treated above (p. 100), that of the rotator. Here the co-ordinate is the azimuth q== (f>y to which belongs, as canonically conjugated quantity, the angular momentum (or, in other words, the moment of momentum) p. In the free rotation p is constant, i.e. independent of the angle turned through. Thus... [Pg.103]

In what follows, we neglect this time dependence, which is not an essential aspect of the problem (time dependence is addressed in section 9.12). For small rotations, the angle turns out [410] to be... [Pg.271]
