Anaphylactic-like reactions

Anaphylaxis that is IgE-dependent is most commonly associated with reactions to foods, drugs, and insect venoms. Anaphylactic-like reactions that are not dependent... [Pg.79]

Eloxatin ) (cisplatin) in that it binds to the N-7 position of guanine, which results in cross-linking of DNA and double-stranded DNA breaks. Acute (within first 2 days) and persistent (greater than 14 days) neuropathies Additional toxicites Anaphylactic-like reactions, dyspnea... [Pg.1350]

Anaphylactoid An anaphylactic-like reaction, similar in signs and symptoms, but not mediated by IgE. A drug causing this reaction produces direct release of inflammatory mediators by a pharmacologic effect. [Pg.1560]

A 21-year-old woman had a severe anaphylactic-like reaction with laryngospasm and undetectable blood pressure within 10 minutes after interferon beta-la injection (63). It is still uncertain that anaphylaxis was definitely attributable to interferon, because rechallenge and skin tests were not performed in this patient, who had tolerated the treatment for the 6 previous months. [Pg.1835]

Very severe forms of hypersensitivity reactions, such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome, are very rare (129). Anaphylactic-like reactions have occurred in 0.7-2% of patients after etoposide administration. Some data suggest that the overall frequency of hjrpersensitivity reactions to teniposide may be as high as 50% if all forms of hypersensitivity are considered. With very few exceptions, patients recover quickly when the drug infusion is stopped immediately (124). [Pg.3460]

Anaphylactic-like reactions, dyspnea, or acute bronchos-pasm have been attributed to tumor necrosis factor alfa in patients also treated with interleukin-2 (16). [Pg.3537]

Generally speaking, all the muscle relaxants discussed here have been reported to produce histamine release when injected intravenously (i.v.). This was shown by an increase in plasma histamine level (Lorenz et al. 1972). The frequency of reaction (significant increase in plasma histamine) was highest with suxamethonium (3 of 8 volunters), followed by alcuronium (alloferin, 2 of 8), and then pancuronium (1 of 7) (Lorenz and Doenicke 1978). However, the latter authors found a poor correlation between the increase in plasma histamine levels and the incidence of clinical manifestations, e.g., such manifestations were more frequent with pancuronium than with suxamethonium. These above findings contradict the low incidence of acute (anaphylactic-like) reactions to pancuronium in practice. [Pg.301]

Sulfamethoxazole-Sepharose covalent complex used in radioimmunoassay with a 1-labeled second antibody Patient experienced severe itch and rash to Septrin (two tablets) 1 year after experiencing an anaphylactic-like reaction to Septrin tablets (trimethoprim 80 mg and sulfamethoxazole 400 mg)... [Pg.203]

Although propofol is generally said to be a remarkably safe dmg, 14 patients were reported to have life-threatening reactions within a few minutes of the administration of propofol, numerous other anaphylactic-like reactions have been reported, and other occasionally observed hypersensitivity reactions include bronchospasm, angioedema, urticaria, and erythematous rash. The overall incidence of anaphylaxis induced by propofol in France is about 1 % and 0.65 % in the Australian survey (Table 7.1). Another survey estimated that 1.2 % of cases of perioperative anaphylactic shock were attributable to propofol. Risk factors for a reaction are said to be a history of previous dmg allergy and the use with atracu-rium, the latter because of possibly enhanced histamine release. [Pg.276]

Absolute patients with documented hypersensitivity to ibuprofen, individuals with a history of allergic manifestations to aspirin or other NSAIDs, and severe anaphylactic-like reaction to ibuprofen. [Pg.216]

The other involves a peracute anaphylactic-like reaction that occurs almost immediately foilowing the injeciion but may not be dosage lelaled. This reaction appears to be related to histamine release. [Pg.192]

Attention has been drawn to acute reactions to cis-dichlorodiammine platinum (94 = ). A case of anaphylactic-like reactions consisting of facial oedema, wheezing, tachycardia and hypotension within a few minutes of i.v. administration, which were controlled by adrenaline, corticosteroids and antihistamines was noted. [Pg.342]
