3 Analysis of Drugs and Decomposition or Isomer Traces in Dosage Forms 

Hanna and Lau-Cam reported on the quantification of diphenhydramine in bulk material, capsules and fteeze-dried solutions for injection. Using /ert-butanol as the internal standard, they obtained mean recoveries of 100.0%. In addition they were able to quantify the decomposition products, benzhydrol, diphenylchloromethane and 2-(dimethylamino)ethanol, to a minimum of about 2% of the parent drug, by utilizing the integral of the corresponding benzylic protons [57].
