The aromaUc extracts are sought mainly tor their solvent power. They are characterized particularly by componential analyses such as the separation according to hydrocarbon family by liquid phase chromatography. 

At present time is the acoustic emission laboratory of the Institute of Design already equipped with modem analysers processing 4 and 16 AE sensors (each enables to sense up to 256 levels). All analysers have at disposal powerful computing technique and corresponding software. 

Technology has converged and seems likely to continue to do so, particularly with the parallel developments in the personal computer. The P.C. today has the power needed to analyse and interpret the often confusing responses obtained in eddy current tests, in real time as the tests are being made. The responses we get from a testpiece come, as we all know, equally from features we are not interested in as they do from significant features. 

In principle, nucleation should occur for any supersaturation given enough time. The critical supersaturation ratio is often defined in terms of the condition needed to observe nucleation on a convenient time scale. As illustrated in Table IX-1, the nucleation rate changes so rapidly with degree of supersaturation that, fortunately, even a few powers of 10 error in the preexponential term make little difference. There has been some controversy surrounding the preexponential term and some detailed analyses are available [33-35].

These methods have gready expanded the scope and power of VPO studies, but important basic questions remain unresolved. Another complication is the role of surface. Peroxide decompositions and radical termination reactions can occur on a surface so that, depending on circumstances, surfaces can have either an inhibiting or accelerating effect. Each surface has varying amounts of adventitious contaminants and also accumulates deposits during reaction. Thus no two surfaces are exactly alike and each changes with time.
