Analgesic drugs adjuvant

Malignant disease requires the full range of analgesics and adjuvant drugs and procedures (see Palliative care, below). 

Caffeine is found in many drug preparations, both prescription and over-the-counter. Caffeine is present in drugs used as stimulants, pain relievers, diuretics, and cold remedies. When used as an analgesic adjuvant, the potency of the analgesic drug is significantly enhanced by the addition of caffeine. 

Caffeine alone may produce analgesic effects in some forms of pain, but clinically it is most often used as an adjuvant medication (Laska et al. 1983 Ghelardini et al. 1997 Kraetsch et al. 1996 Forbes et al. 1991). Adjuvant drugs are those used alongside analgesics in the management of pain. They are not themselves analgesics, though they may modify the perception or the concomitants of pain that make it worse (anxiety, fear. 

The clinician s task is to determine the significance of these items for each patient and to direct therapy accordingly. Analgesics may, but not necessarily will, be the mainstay of therapy adjuvant (nonanalgesic) drugs may be needed, as well as nondrug therapy (radiation, surgery). 

It is a potent narcotic analgesic primarily employed as an analgesic for the arrest of pain after all types ofsurgical procedures. It possesses an inherent rapid onset and short duration ofaction. It may be employed also as an adjuvant to all such drugs mostly used for regional and general anaesthesia. 

Still, with all controversies as to mode of administration, choice of drug, dose, concentration or adjuvants, there seems to be proper documentation of analgesic effect from neuraxial glucocorticoids during acute episodes of low back pain and radiating pain. The effect may be evident within a few hours and may last for 1-3 weeks and up to 3-6 months in some studies. However, the analgesic effect does not seem to be superior to placebo when evaluated beyond this time-frame, or in terms of outcome or risk of recurrence.
