Ammonium selenite

If the oxychloride is applied in dilute benzene solution some nitrogen selenide or selenium nitride is also formed.3 With liquid ammonia in the presence of ether in open vessels, the primary product is the compound SeOCl2.4NH3, which is decomposed by water into selenium, selenium nitride, ammonium chloride, ammonium selenite and selenious acid in a sealed tube, selenium nitride is formed in comparatively good yield.4... 

The Selenites.—Selenious acid is a weak acid but neutralises hydroxides and carbonates witli the production of selenites. Ammonium selenite is formed by dissolving selenious acid in aqueous ammonia.3 The selenites can be obtained in an anhydrous condition by heating the metal oxides in a current of selenium dioxide vapour or with selenium dioxide in a sealed tube in the latter case the products can be obtained crystalline if the selenium dioxide is used in excess.4... 

Ammonium selenite, (NH4)2Se03.—Concentration of an alcoholic or aqueous solution of selenious acid saturated with ammonia yields the selenite in four-sided columns or laminae.6 On heating, it decomposes with separation of selenium, and evolution of nitrogen. 

Janickis [34JAN] determined the solubility of ammonium selenite in water over the temperature interval 253.2 to 343.2 K and found that (NH4)2Se03 H20(cr) was the only solid phase formed. Above about 343 K oxidation of NH to N2 begins. The solubility of (NH4)2Se03 H20(cr) in water at 298.15 K was reported to be 7.40 mol((N H4)2Se03)-kg . ... 

No enthalpies or Gibbs energies of formation of ammonium selenites have been found.
