In general, when gas is purified by the old process of ammonia scrubbers and iron oxide purifiers, about 33 per cent, of the HCN condenses with the ammonia, and only 50-70 per cent, in the iron oxide purifiers, the rest of the HCN passing away with the coal gas, causing corrosion of the gas holders and meters. [Pg.81]

The process for granular DAP has an unusual feature all the phosphoric acid feed is used in the two-stage ammonia scrubber, where most of the ammonia lost from the granulator is recovered. It is desired to reduce the concentration of CO2 in the flue gas from a coal-flred power plant, in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The effluent flue gas is sent to an ammonia scrubber, where the most of the CO2 is absorbed in a liquid ammonia solution, as shown in Fig. E15.3. A feedforward control system will be used to control the CO2 concentration in the flue gas stream leaving the scrubber, Cco2 which cannot be measured on-line.
