Synthesis and Characterization of Amino Acid Functional Siloxanes... [Pg.128]

The preparation of polymers containing pendant or terminal amino acids, peptides, and polypeptides has in the past been limited to organic polymers, and so has neglected inorganic polymers such as siloxanes. A novel series of amino acid functional siloxanes, suitable for use in personal care products, have been prepared and characterized for the first time. Such products can be synthesized by a three-step procedure. The preparation of amino acid siloxanes has now been achieved by hydrosilylation of an unsaturated functional amino acid with three hydrido functional siloxanes tetramethyldisiloxane, containing terminal Si-H groups, poly(methylhydrogen)siloxane (DP = 33) and... [Pg.128]

Amino acids bearing unsaturated vinyl or allyl groups can be grafted onto pendant hydridosiloxanes by hydrosilylation (14,15). The hydrosilylation reaction involves the addition of Si-H functional compounds to unsaturated organic compounds in the presence of a transition metal catalyst, usually platinum. Several amino acid functionalized siloxanes have been prepared this way first by synthesizing allylcarboxy... [Pg.129]

Systematic investigations of the adsorption of such amino acid functional siloxanes on various surfaces where molecular effects (including steric considerations), surface molecular orientation and coordination, can now be undertaken. Such adsorption behavior intrinsic to biomolecular activity will be the subject of future reports. [Pg.161]
