The chemisorption of species occurs at specific sites on the electrode, for example on top of certain atoms, or in the bridge position between two atoms. Therefore, most adsorption studies are performed on well-defined surfaces, which means either on the surface of a liquid electrode or on a particular surface plane of a single crystal. Only fairly recently have electrochemists learned to prepare clean single crystal electrode surfaces, and much of the older work was done on mercury or on amalgams. 

Unlike CsAu (Cs+Au , CsCl type structure) and others [20] which are aurides with well defined Au ions, CsHg and similar amalgams are not simple mercu-rides but have more complicated structure and bonding properties, as was shown in Section 2.4.2.2.

The dimerization of 28 has also been studied by Prasad, who used Raman spectroscopy to monitor both changes in intermolecular vibrations and lattice phonon modes [73]. The Raman spectrum shows the disappearance of alkene stretches at 997, 1180, 1593, and 1625 cm-1 as expected, and the appearance of cyclobutane modes at 878,979, and 1001 cm-1. Phonon modes broadened as the reaction progressed, and bands around 15-40 cm-1 showed a shift in frequency. Between about 50 and 66% conversion it was difficult to define distinct bands, but after that point product bands grew in distinctly. This amalgamation behavior is good evidence for a homogeneous reaction mechanism. 

For comparative purposes the syntheses and properties of formally seven-coordinate d4 biscyclopentadienyl alkyne complexes will be presented. The absence of a vacant dir orbital places these d4 complexes unambiguously in the two-electron alkyne category, i.e., N = 2 applies where N is defined as the formal electron donor number for the alkyne ligand. How is this amalgame achieved in practice As has already been noted, Baudelaire s translation methods and uses of translation for creative ends are all characterized by a very strong presence of his subjectivity within or around the translated text.
