Aluminum-silicon cluster

Clusters of the elements aluminum to thallium containing only one or two carbon atoms and strong direct element-element interactions, similar to boron rich car-baboranes, have not yet been synthesized, and also the corresponding silicon derivatives are relatively rare. To the best of our knowledge only one aluminum-silicon and one gallium-silicon cluster (1 and 2) has been reported in the literature. The reaction of metastable aluminum(I) chloride with decamethylsilicocene or with a mixture of SiCl4 and (AlCp )4, respectively, afforded black crystals of... [Pg.357]

A more complex example Is provided by cluster two, the alblte cluster containing mainly sodium, aluminum, and silicon. Consideration of the number of vectors from the elgenanalysls In Table III suggested the presence of four components. Target testing Identified these as alblte, quartz, orthoclase, and perhaps gypsum. The fit of these four vectors Is shown In Table V. Normalized elemental concentrations less than about 0.01 are considered unreliable because they are too close to the noise level. Thus, for example, vector one. Identified as alblte, contains only sodium, aluminum, and silicon vector two. Identified as quartz, appears to have a... [Pg.62]

FIGURE 28.13 A scheme of the cluster IV modeling a part of aluminosihca surface realized due to the change of hydroxylated silicon atom by aluminum one within surface layer of -crystobalite. The atoms numbering is given in dependence on their distances from aluminum one. The atoms are labeled with f letter that kept their positions under optimization unchanged and the same as those in j8-crystobahte. [Pg.346]

The examination of the local state densities (LSD) of the systems under consideration can serve as one more example of obtaining useful information on the properties of concrete atoms in surface structures [134]. The Figure 28.17 performs these state densities of silicon and aluminum atoms calculated for the cluster IV. Thus, the one of the maxima of LSD of aluminum atom is stationed within the energy region from — 1 to +1 eV, and the energy of the highest occupied orbital is of — 8.4eV. [Pg.346]

Heterogeneous catalysts, which are obtained by deposition of cluster-type metal complexes on inorganic substances such as aluminum, titanium, magnesium, zinc, silicon, tin, and tungsten or on polymers, have also been... [Pg.736]
