Aluminum Phosphide ALP

Aluminum phosphide (AlP) also exists, but its presence in hydrotreating catalysts is very unlikely because almninum oxide is thermodynamically very stable.

Aluminum phosphide, like aluminum nitride, reacts with moisture but in this case the gaseous product is phosphine, PH3, a very toxic gas. For this reason, AlP is used as a fumigant to control insects in stored products such as raw agricultural products, animal feeds, processed foods (for example, flour and sugar), tobacco, wood, paper, leather, hair, and feathers. It is also used for control of rodents such as rats, mice, squirrels, and gophers in and around mills, food processing plants, warehouses and silos, and in rail cars, ships, and shipping containers. 

AIN, is produced by arcing high purity aluminum electrodes in a nitrogen atmosphere. Aluminum sulfide [1302-81 -4] 2 3 aluminum phosphide [20859-73-8] AlP, result from reaction at high temperatures with sulfur and phosphoms [7723-14-0] respectively. 

Phosphides. Compounds of phosphoms containing the more electropositive elements are generally called phosphides. A large number of binary phosphides as well as many ternary mixed-metal phosphides, metal phosphide nitrides, etc, are known. Some binary phosphides, such as those of nickel, exhibit a variety of stoichiometries (Ni P, Ni P2, Nq2P5, Ni2P, Ni P, NiP, NiP2, NiP ), whereas others, such as aluminum, form only one (AlP).
