Heat-resisting aluminum

In bulk coating processes, bulk materials are joined to the substrate either by a surface melt process or by attachment of the soHd material. An example of the latter is the appHcation of heat-resistant tiles of sHica-type material to the aluminum alloy skin of a space shuttle vehicle, enabling the vehicle to withstand the reentry heat. [Pg.46]

Titanate Pigments. When a nickel salt and antimony oxide are calcined with mtile titanium dioxide at just below 1000°C, some of the added metals diffuse into the titanium dioxide crystal lattice and a yellow color results. In a similar manner, a buff may be produced with chromium and antimony a green, with cobalt and nickel and a blue, with cobalt and aluminum. These pigments are relatively weak but have extreme heat resistance and outdoor weatherabihty, eg, the yellow is used where a light cadmium could not be considered. They are compatible with most resins. [Pg.459]

Other metals used are chromium, lead, and aluminum. Electro-chromium coated sheet is used for the tops of steel drinks cans. Aluminium coated sheet provides a combination of corrosion and heat resistance ideal for car exhaust pipes. [Pg.121]

Normal laboratory glassware must first be washed and cleaned. It has to be rinsed with deionised water. The clean glassware is sterilised in an oven set at 200 °C for 1 1 hours. It is suitable to cover glassware with aluminum foil to maintain aseptic conditions after removing the glassware from the oven. If aluminum foil is not available, special heat-resistant wrap paper can be used. The sterile glassware must be protected from the air, which has micro-flora, or any contaminants. Avoid the use of any plastic caps and papers. Detach any labelling tape or other flammable materials, as they are fire hazards. [Pg.348]

For the ultimate protection from chemicals, certain work areas may be covered with thin sheets of self-adhering Teflon, available in roll form. One version is sandwiched with a thin sheet of aluminum foil, which increases heat resistance by conducting heat away from high temperature spots. [Pg.82]

As can be seen from this figure, the heat-resistance was remarkably improved by the drastic changes in the microstructure from amorphous to polycrystalline structure. Another type of SiC-based fiber, SA fiber (2), has a sintered SiC polycrystalline structure and includes very small amounts of aluminum. This fiber exhibits outstanding high temperature strength, coupled with much improved thermal conductivity and thermal stability compared with the Nicalon and Hi-Nicalon fibers. The fabrication cost of the SA fiber is also reduced to near half of that of the Hi-Nicalon Type S [ 17]. The SA fiber makes SiC/SiC composites even more attractive to the many applications [18]. In the next section, the production process, microstructure and physical properties of the SA fiber are explained in detail. [Pg.126]

Other types of asbestos often contain silicates of magnesium, iron and aluminum as well as of magnesium. Commercial forms of asbestos can be white, grayish, bluish or greenish in color. Asbestos is acid- and heat-resistant and may be spun or woven (Refs 2-4)... [Pg.494]

These varnishes can be used to produce heat-resistant enamels, which are prepared directly before use by mixing varnishes with aluminum power (usually 5 weight parts of powder per 100 weight parts of varnish). This enamel can be used for parts which operate at 450-500 °C (automobile radiators, calorifers, ventilation units, etc.). Polyphenylsiloxane can be used... [Pg.292]

Aluminum powder, in particular, is frequently employed at relatively high concentrations in high-temperature epoxy adhesive formulations. The filler provides improvement in both tensile strength and heat resistance, and it increases the thermal conductivity of the adhesive. Aluminum powder fillers also reduce undercut corrosion and, hence, improve adhesion and durability of epoxy adhesive between bare steel substrates. It is believed that this is accomplished by the aluminum filler providing a sacrificial electrochemical mechanism.27... [Pg.177]

After extracting your herb with alcohol, the plant residue is filtered out and placed into a heat-resistant dish. (A metal dish is OK, but avoid aluminum.) Take it outside and place it on a brick or some other fire-resistant holder. Then touch a match to it. Let the herb bum and stir it around once in a while to bum as much as possible. It should turn black and if you are lucky it will calcine by itself to gray. A small propane camp stove is perfect for many operations used in alchemy. [Pg.37]
