Aluminum Cleaner

Traditionally, anionic surfactants have offered better detergency then nonionics, but were not compatible in acid systems. This formulation uses Avanel S-70, an anionic molecule which performs even at very low pH s and aids in the removal of surface oils and deposits. Unlike nonionics, Avanel S-70 will dissolve readily into the formulation without forming gel particles thus eliminating the need for excessive agitation. This formulation can be used for over-the-road aluminum trailers, wire wheels on automobiles or in the preparation of aluminum for anodizing and cleaning. 

Deionized Water Phosphoric Acid (85%) Citric Acid (50%) Nitric Acid (70%) Avanel S-70 

Charge the water to a mixing vessel. Under slow agitation and with due care, add the acids to the water. Add the Avanel S-70 and mix 10 minutes. NOTE If additional brightening is required, the nitric acid concentration may be increased to 1.5%. Formulation CM-101 

Ingredients Sodium Hydroxide Sodium Carbonate STPP 

Tetrapotassium Pyrophosphate Sodium Metasilicate Pentahydrate Carbitol Solvent 

Butoxyethanol Mi ranol CS Cone. Phosphoric Acid, 75% Ammonium Bifluoride 

Blend ingredients in order listed and mix until uniform. 

Appearance Clear, yellow liquid pH, as is 1.0 Specific Gravity 1.24 Vi scosi ty 10 cps 

Add the water, start the mixer. Add the remaining ingredients with agitation. Mix until uniform. 

Appearance Hazy liquid pH, as is 3.80 Specific Gravity 1.22 Viscosity 20

Aluminum Cleaner/Briahtener Acid Cleaner for Aluminum Wheels and Trailers...

This is a totally organic, phosphate-free aluminum cleaner that provides excellent cleaning and brightening of aluminum. 

Charge the water and dissolve the builder salts under agitation. When dissolved, charge the remaining ingredients. Continue mixing for 9t least 15 minutes. NOTE This alkaline aluminum cleaner has shown excellent cleaning properties without chemical attack of the metal. This formulation may be cut 1 1 with water to prepare a mild hard-surface cleaner.
