In 1962 Hall ( ) studied the chemisorption of organic cation radicals on silica-alumina and counted t number of adsorbed ions by means of ESR, obtaining about 10 cm. It was assumed that the sites so counted are Lewis acid cracking sites. [Pg.444]

The solvent sublation procedure of Wickbold [18] is another method that has been used for the analysis of LAS present in seawater [19,20], The solvent sublation technique (gaseous stripping into organic solvent, often ethyl acetate) has also been used to isolate and concentrate nonionic surfactants, e.g. AEs and APEO in aqueous samples [21,22], The co-extracted interferences can be eliminated by cation/anion ion-exchange and alumina chromatography [23,24]. [Pg.425]

The hydrothermal method has been employed in recent years to synthesize a variety of solids that include aluminium phosphates (ALPOs) and other microporous transition-metal phosphates and transition-metal polychalcogenides (Davis Lobo, 1992 Haushalter Mundi, 1992 Liao Kanatzidis, 1990, 1992). Unlike zeolites, synthesis of ALPOs requires acidic or mildly basic conditions and no alkali metal cations. A typical synthetic mixture for making ALPO consists of alumina, H3PO4, water and an organic material such as a quaternary ammonium salt or an amine. The hydrothermal reaction occurs around 373-573 K. The use of fluoride ions, instead of hydroxide ions as mineralizer, allows synthesis of novel microporous materials under acidic conditions (Estermann et al, 1991 Ferey et ai, 1994). [Pg.138]

In summary, nanometer-sized mesoporous silica and alumina spheres with tunable diameters (80 - 900 nm) can be synthesized in organic solvent. Mesoporous silica spheres templated by cationic surfactant (CTAB) have hexagonal array with monodispersed pore size (-2.4 nm), high surface areas (-1020 m2/g), and pore volume (1.02 cm3/g). Mesoporous alumina spheres templated by amphiphilic triblock copolymer show a large disordered mesopore (10.0 nm) and high BET surface area (360 m2/g). [Pg.42]
