Alternative fuels are being developed and used today to replace fossil fuels such as oil. As an alternative fuels technician, you may work in research developing new vehicles. Or, you may educate consumers and service and maintain their environmentally friendly vehicles. [Pg.702]

Each alkane-based substituent group branching from the parent chain is named for the straight-chain alkane having the same number of carbon atoms as the substituent. The ending -ane is replaced with the letters -yl, as shown in the following diagram. [Pg.702]
