The time for holding conferences and writing articles is over. The Secretary General of the United Nations, on September 24, 2007, put it this way "The time for doubt has passed." It is time to build those demonstration plants that will clearly establish the feasibility and costs of the various alternative energy systems. It is time to start to replace fossil fuels with clean and renewable energy sources such as solar-hydrogen.

Efficient water usage and the application of alternative energy systems, as well as hygienic measures for diseases prevention, play a crucial role in the self-sufficiency approach. Sustainable changes of land use systems are unthinkable without investments in those sectors. 

Reaching this objective requires the development of new energy-efficient construction materials, smart appliances, alternative energy systems in the home environment, insulation and sustainable products for the consumer.

Although contemporary systems and processes may be complex, the techniques and the content of this book stUl apply. But to maximize the value of our approach, you may need to create new definitions, characterize other properties, consider additional interactions that influence complex systems, implement coimections to molecular theory and statistical mechanics, and derive appropriate relations that are amenable to reliable modeling. In the past such characterizations were commonly done in terms of macroscopic measurables, but now molecular structure is being used to describe complex systems, including alternative-energy systems, biochemicals, colloids and interfaces, electrolytes, polymers, and exotic materials. 

Such structures show potential in nanoelectronics and for storage of H2 in alternative energy systems. ...
