To a solution of 37.7 g 2-allyl-4-methoxyphenol in 125 ml glacial acetic acid there was added 19 g zinc chloride followed with 63 ml concentrated HCI. The mixture was held at reflux temperature for 40 min, then cooled to room temperature, diluted with 300 mL H20, and extracted with 2x200 mL CH2CI2.
