Alkyl chain branching

Effect of alkyl chain branching on weathering of PVC plasticized with general-purpose phthalate plasticizers. Although it is well known that anion modification leads to changes in the physico-chemical properties of ILs, all the works published so far showed no systematic effect of the anion, indicating that ILs toxicity is largely driven by the alkyl chain branching and hydrophobicity of the cation (Fig. 1). 

The range of possible residnes inclndes nearly each conceivable alkyl chain, branched ones, aromatic and heteroaromatic systems. Even highly fnnctionalized or hindered aldehydes like carbohydrate derivatives [233], linear-extended biscarbaldehydes [234], or even polymer-bound aldehydes [235] are suitable for this reaction.
