Immediately after dipping perphenazine (h/ f 28-33) appeared as pink-colored, fluphenazine (hRj 30-35), dixyrazine (hRj 33-38) and verophene (= promazine, hRf 38-43) as skin-colored and periciazine (h/ f 35-40) as orange, promethazine (h/ f 43-48) as bright pink, alimemazine (h/ f 60-65) as skin-colored and dibutil (etho-propazine, hRf 75-80) as pink-colored chromatogram zones on a colorless background (Fig. 2). The colors faded after some time. [Pg.185]

Desloratadine is a non-sedating antihistamine. Diphenhydramine, chlor-phenamine, promethazine and alimemazine are sedating antihistamines with diphenhydramine and promethazine being marketed in over-the-counter hypnotic preparations. [Pg.291]

Chlorpromazine is the best known representative of the aliphatic phenothiazines. Although it is considered to be a low potency agent it is still frequently used. It is one of the most sedative antipsychotic agents and is therefore very effective in the treatment of agitated and violent patients. Extrapyramidal effects are seen with a rather low incidence. However it displays marked anticholinergic activity. There have been reports of hepatotoxicity, also in patients with previously normal hepatic function, due to chlorpromazine. Alimemazine and triflupro-mazine are other representatives from this group. [Pg.350]

Promethazine has prominent sedative effects as weii as anti-muscarinic and dopamine D2-blocking effects. These make it usefui as an anti-emetic, and it is especially useful for the prevention and treatment of motion sickness. Like other phenothiazines, it has weak al-adrenergic blocking effects and can iower biood pressure if injected rapidly intravenously. Intramuscular injection can be painful. Alimemazine tartrate is a phenothiazine with HI antagonist activity that produces marked sedation. It is used mainiy for its marked relief of pruritus, and is also popular for the premedication of children (dose 2 mg-kg-1). [Pg.243]

A 73-year-old woman with diabetes mellitus and schizophrenia was given haloperidol 8 mg/day instead of zuclopenthixol she also took levomepromazine 75 mg at night 10 days later she was found unconscious with a rectal temperature of 31.5° C (546). A few weeks later, she had two further episodes, first with olanzapine 10 mg/day (rectal temperature 31.7° C) and then with thioridazine 40 mg/day (rectal temperature 34° C). She was therefore given dixyrazine 150 mg/day and alimemazine 20 mg at night, and had no more episodes of hypothermia. [Pg.227]

Alimemazine is a phenothiazine derivative with sedative antihistaminic and antimuscarinic effects. [Pg.254]

A 41-year-old man developed acute abdominal pain with profuse diarrhea and fever (39°C) while receiving intramuscular fluphenazine decanoate 125 mg once every 3 weeks. During the previous 3 months he had also taken oral alimemazine 50 mg/day, levomeproma-zine 50 mg/day, and amitriptyline 100 mg/day. Colonoscopy showed necrotic ulcers in the mucosa of the sigmoid and descending colon. After three weeks of parenteral nutrition, there was a marked reduction in the colonic lesions and he recovered. Levomepromazine 50 mg/day and fluphenazine decanoate 100 mg/day were reintroduced. Two days later he complained again of abdominal pain, and tomodensi-tometry confirmed distension. [Pg.294]
