Almost all publications concerning the terpenes of brown algae refer to the above-mentioned orders Dictyo-tales and Fucales, in which numerous diterpenes and some sesquiterpenes, a single linear tri-nor-triterpene and a linear tetraterpene have been identified, but no monoterpene. Because, with very few exceptions, the terpenes of brown algae do not contain any halogens, it is necessary to distinguish clearly between the terpenes of Phaeophyceae and those of Chlorophyceae and Rhodo-phyceae. It is found in lichens and in some algae. It has m.p. 120 C, is very soluble in water and is about twice as sweet as sucrose. It is a reference compound upon which the erythro nomenclature is based. 

Assume fouling factors. Inside tube factors can be selected from Table 10-12 or 10-13 or by referring to Table 10-15. Because the water rate is low over these coolers, they may develop salt crusts, scale, algae, etc. therefore, the values of fouling will be high, see Table 10-35.

Transfer of copper from wood treated with chromated copper arsenate (CCA) occurs in estuarine algae (Ulva, Enteromorpha), American oysters, mud snails (Nassarius obsoletus), and fiddler crabs (IJca spp. Weis and Weis 1992).
