Second, the notion of process dominates the work of three philosophers of the last century Henri-Louis Bergson (1859-1941), Samuel Alexander (1859-1938), and Alfred North Whitehead (1861-1947) (see Ayer, 1982, pp. 208-9). In passing, it is perhaps worth noting that process theology is based on the metaphysics of Whitehead, who rejected Divine Action in terms of causality, proposing that God acts persuasively in all events, but not necessarily in determining their character. Specifically, Whitehead pointed out the incoherence of belief in a lifeless universe. 

A similar criticism of science can be found in the works of the early eighteenth-century British moralists Alexander Pope, Samuel Johnson, and William Cowper.

Schwabe, Samuel Heinrich (1789-1875) German astronomer, discovered the solar cycle through extended observations of sunspots. Schwabe s observations were afterwards utilized in 1851 by Alexander von Humboldt in the third volume of his Kosmos.

While some polymer chemists are better known for their accomplishments, few excelled Herman Alexander Bruson in ingenuity and productivity. Herman, who was the son of Samuel J. and Rebecca Arnowitz Bruson, was born in Middleton, OH on July 20, 1901. After receiving the B.S. degree from MIT in 1923, he enrolled in Zurich s Federal Technical University where he was awarded the Ph.D. degree in 1925.
