Aldehydes reaction with halogens

Passerini, M. The isonitriies. III. Reaction with halogen aldehyde hydrates. Gazz. Chim. Itai. 1922, 52, 432-435. [Pg.645]

Reaction with Organic Compounds. Aluminum is not attacked by saturated or unsaturated, aUphatic or aromatic hydrocarbons. Halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons do not generally react with aluminum except in the presence of water, which leads to the forma tion of halogen acids. The chemical stabiUty of aluminum in the presence of alcohols is very good and stabiUty is excellent in the presence of aldehydes, ketones, and quinones. [Pg.95]

The classical Reformatsky reaction consists of the treatment of an a-halo ester 1 with zinc metal and subsequent reaction with an aldehyde or ketone 3. Nowadays the name is used generally for reactions that involve insertion of a metal into a carbon-halogen bond and subsequent reaction with an electrophile. Formally the Reformatsky reaction is similar to the Grignard reaction. [Pg.237]

Ketalization of the aldehyde with neopentyl glycol (32) followed by reaction with dichloroketene gives the 2+2 cycloadduct, 33. The halogen is then removed by reduction with zinc... [Pg.30]

A particularly common cr-substitution reaction in the laboratory is the halogenation of aldehydes and ketones at their a- positions by reaction with Cl2, Br2, or I2 in acidic solution. Bromine in acetic acid solvent is often used. [Pg.846]

In the haloform reaction, methyl ketones (and the only methyl aldehyde, acetaldehyde) are cleaved with halogen and a base. The halogen can be bromine, chlorine, or iodine. What takes place is actually a combination of two reactions. The first is an example of 12-4, in which, under the basic conditions employed, the methyl group is trihalogenated. Then the resulting trihalo ketone is attacked by hydroxide ion ... [Pg.813]

Reaction of halophosphoranes with aldehydes or ketones reaction of certain ylids with halogen compounds (scoopy reactions)... [Pg.1693]

A New Improved Synthesis of Tricycle Thienobenzazepines Apphcation of chemistry recently developed by Knochel" combined with the well-described halogen dance (HD) reaction, allowed preparation of our key intermediate A in only three synthetic transformations (Scheme 6.4). In this respect, treatment of 2-bromo-5-methylthiophene with hthium diisopropylamide followed by dimethylformamide afforded aldehyde 11 in good yield, lodo-magnesium exchange with conunercial 4-iodo-3-nitro anisole followed by reaction with 11 afforded the thiophene catbinol 12. Dehydroxylation of 12 provided our key intermediate A which presented the requisite functionality to examine our approach to the construction of the seven-member ring system. [Pg.66]

Alcohols can react in several ways, depending on the reactants and on the conditions of the reaction. For example, alcohols can undergo substitution with halogen acids, elimination to form alkenes, and oxidation to form aldehydes, ketones, or carboxylic acids. [Pg.70]

A conversion typical of a-halo-a-lithioaUcanes is the formation of epoxides that results from their reaction with aldehydes or ketones. As illustrated in equation 61, the bromo-lithium carbenoid is usually generated by halogen-lithium exchange. The intermediate lithium aUcoxide 113 undergoes an in situ ring closure to give the oxirane 114 . [Pg.872]
