Alcohols glycoconjugates

Chaplin used methanolysis for the analysis of carbohydrates in glycoproteins. His method was a variation of the foregoing procedures, with an improvement of using tert-hvAyX alcohol to remove hydrogen chloride by coevaporation, instead of prolonged trituration with silver carbonate. His method is useful for samples containing uronic acids and lipids. Mononen studied methanolysis, followed by deamination and reduction with borohydride, for determination of the monosaccharide constituents of glycoconjugates. This method was applied to a lipid-free, protein fraction of rat brain. [Pg.258]

Alcohol interferes with a number of glycoconjugation reactions, perhaps as the result of acetaldehyde inhibition of hepatic glycotransferases. The isoforms of transferrin have been studied as markers of alcohol consumption, as excessive ethanol consumption results in the appearance in serum... [Pg.1818]

Miura et al. synthesized PVA type glycoconjugate polymers by lipase-catalyzed transesterification of sugar alcohols such as maltitol and lactitol with divinyl dicarboxylates and subsequent radical polymerization to get PVA with sugar alcohol pendants 39 (Figure 16) (90). They found out that the biodegradabilities of these polymers were modest, but higher than that of PVA. Takasu et al. synthesized glucosamine or chitobiose-substituted PVA 40 by a... [Pg.400]
