G-5 Aliphatic Petroleum Resins. Carbocationic polymerization of C-5 feedstreams has been accomptished with various Friedel-Crafts catalyst systems. Table 3 compares the efficiencies of selected Lewis acids ia the polymerization of a typical C-5 stream containing 43 wt % C-5—C-6 diolefias and 47 wt % C-5—C-6 olefins (20). Based on weight percent yield of resia at equimolar coaceatratioas of catalyst (5.62 mmol/100 g), efficieacy follows AICI3 AlBr3 > BF3etherate-H20 > TiCfy > SnCl. The most commonly used catalyst in petroleum resin synthesis is AlCl. ... [Pg.352]

AlBr3, EtSH, 25°, <1 h, 94% yield. Both methyl aryl and methyl alkyl ethers are cleaved under these conditions. A methylenedioxy group, used to protect a catechol, is cleaved under similar conditions in satisfactory yields methyl and ethyl esters are stable (0-20°, 2 h). ... [Pg.252]

AlBr3, EtSH, 0°, 0.5-1 h, 73-78% yield. Aluminum bromide cleaves aryl and alkyl methyl ethers in high yield methyl esters are stable. [Pg.287]

The reported densities of ionic liquids vary between 1.12 g cm for [(n-QHi7)(C4H9)3N][(CF3S02)2N] and 2.4 g cm for a 34-66 mol% [(CH3)3S]Br/AlBr3 ionic liquid [21, 23]. The densities of ionic liquid appear to be the physical property least sensitive to variations in temperature. For example, a 5 degree change in temperature from 298 to 303 K results in only a 0.3 % decrease in the density for a 50.0 50.0 mol % [EMIM]C1/A1C13 [17]. In addition, the impact of impurities appears to be far less dramatic than in the case of viscosity. Recent work indicates that the densities of ionic liquids vary linearly with wt. % of impurities. For example, 20 wt. % water (75 mol %) in [BMIM][BF4] results in only a 4 % decrease in density [33]. [Pg.66]

The synthesis of sulfones included electrophilic substitution, specifically, Frie-del-Crafts catalysis by A1C13, FeCl3, SbCl5, AlBr3 and BF3, and so on, which are efficient catalysts for the sulfonylation by arenesulfonyl halides.1 22... [Pg.329]

Trimethyl-l-pentene (TMP) (2 ml) was mixed with MeX (5 ml) and desired amounts of alkylaluminum and f-BuX solutions were added. In a similar study, 2 ml TMP were mixed with 5 ml MeBr and 0.1 ml of a solution of AlBr3 MeBr complex in MeBr (10 vol.%) was added at -80 °C. The reaction was stopped after 20 mins, and the products separated and analyzed using Kennedy and Rengachary s method11J. [Pg.90]
