For a solid matrix, spraying a solution on particles under agitation (fluid bed or pan coating or agglomeration).

Belt Typ es The patented metal-belt type (Fig. ll-53a), termed the water-bed conveyor, features a thin wall, a well-agitated fluid side for a thin water film (there are no rigid welded jackets to fail), a stainless-steel or Swedish-iron conveyor belt floated on the water... 

The fluid bed has generally established itself as the preferred equipment for the crystallization and for the cooling section of the SSP plant. High heat-transfer coefficients enable the pellets to be heated and cooled very quickly, pellet agitation can be achieved without dust generation, and the direct contact between gas and solid enables a de-dusting effect.

Fluid bed use of an agitated bed of inert granular material to accomplish a process in which the agitated bed resembles the motion of a fluid. 

Fluid-bed a bed (of catalyst) that is agitated by an upward passing gas in such a manner that the particles of the bed simulate the movement of a fluid and has the characteristics associated with a true liquid see Fixed bed. 

The product, called fluid coke (FC), is produced by coking of liquid feedstock coating tiny coke seeds as they are agitated on a fluid bed, where the temperature is 100-150°C above that for delayed cokers. Relatively little fluid coke is used in the aluminum industry because it is often high in impurities (sulfur and metals), and available only as submillimeter particles which are harder to grind and bind into the anode. 

Increase agitation intensity Increase mixer impeller or drum rotation speed or fluid-bed gas velocity. 

Decrease load to reduce wear Lower-formulation density. Decrease bed-agitation and compaction forces (e.g., mixer impeller speed, fluid-bed height, bed weight, fluid-bed excess gas velocity, drum rotation speed).
