Agelas genus

Agelasidines A-D (275-279) are a series of terpene derivatives of hypotaurocyamine and were isolated from sponges of the genus Agelas. Agelasidine B (276) and (+)-C (277) were obtained from the Okinawan A. nakamurai [201] while agelasidines (-)-C (278) and D (279) were isolated from the Caribbean A. clathrodes [202]. In Fig. 9.7 are displayed acyclic and cyclic dimeric members of the pyrrole-imidazole family. Nagelamide D, from Okinawan marine sponges of the genus Agelas, is a dimer comprised of oroidin monomer units connected between the C-10 and C-15 positions [80]. However, the assigned structure of this substance is questionable (see below). Sceptrin, isolated in 1981 by Faulkner and Clardy from Agelas sceptrum, is the first reported symmetric dimer comprised of hymenidin subunits [81]. 

Benzosceptrins A-C are other dimeric bromopyrrole alkaloids with a unique benzo-cyclobutane moiety. Benzo-sceptrin A was isolated from a Halichondrid sponge of the genus Phakellia collected around Solomon Islands, and benzosceptrins B and C were isolated from a New Caledonian and a Japanese (Okinawa) Agelas sp. (Appenzeller et al, 2009 Kubota et al, 2009). 

Bergquist and Hartmann (28) observed an anomalous amino acid pattern in the genus Agelas with respect to those of other Poecilosclerida and found it difficult to differentiate Agelas from typical Axinellidae. ...
