We see that in contrast to the case of the solvation Gibbs energies where we encountered only three different quantities which correspond to four distinctly different processes, here we have four different quantities. The entropy change for the p-process is unequal to the entropy of solvation. Hence, one cannot identify the solvation process with the p-process. Unfortunately, such an identification is frequently made in the literature. We also note that ASs (p-process) cannot be obtained by direct differentiation of AGs(p-process) with respect to the temperature. When we take the temperature derivative of AG we do not get the entropy change for the p-process. The reason is quite subtle and has to do with the choice of standard states. We shall elaborate further on this aspect. [Pg.211]

Substantial contributions to the development of the syntactic devices reported here have been made by Dr. Maria Isenberg, Ass. Gunter Kusemann, Drs. Ingeborg and Herbert Nickelsen, Gottfried PloB, and Jakob H. Winter at Hoechst AG. [Pg.439]

In general, the corresponding A(AH) and A(A5) values can be obtained as the differences A//r - AHs and ASr - ASs, or can be estimated from the selectivity factor (a), which is related to the difference in Gibbs energy of association A(AG) for an enantiomeric pair as was already mentioned. The values of A(AH) and A(A5) obtained by the two methods should be identical within experimental error. [Pg.761]
