Introduction engineering requirements for aerospace composite materials... [Pg.1]

Astronautics. The space environment is harsh and hostile, not only to life but also to human-made devices. Thus, great care and redundancy must go into any spacecraft design. Aerospace engineers must design spacecraft that can operate in extremes of hot and cold, microgravity, and the vaccum of space, as well as under intense radiation exposure and despite repeated micrometeoroid impacts. These conditions are all difficult to reproduce on Earth. For manned spacecraft or space stations, the additional requirement is that a habitable environment must... [Pg.1707]

Other professional engineering disciphnes promote safer design practice as fundamental skills that new engineers should acquire and understand. Indeed postgraduate aerospace engineers are required to undertake a formal engineering train-... [Pg.167]

In mathematical system theory, the subject of model reduction has been studied for about 30 years. The focus is on model reduction of linear systems, in particular methods based on singular value decomposition. One of the best known of these methods is balanced truncation. It is used extensively for various engineering purposes, such as electronic chip design and the reduction of models of aerospace structures. This method does not require the type of a priori information about the system mentioned above. Only recently has it been tried out on biochemical systems [105, 106]. [Pg.410]
