Adkin’s catalyst

Although 50 years have elapsed and an enormous amount of experimental and theoretical work has been devoted to the mechanism of catalytic hydrogenation, the process is as yet incompletely understood. The requirements of a good catalyst have been summarized (Adkins, 4) as follows (1) it must adsorb and (2) activate hydrogen (3) adsorb, and (4) activate the hydrogen acceptor (5) hold them in the proper space relationship for reaction and (6) desorb or set free the reaction product(s). [Pg.386]

It is hence not surprising that Otto Roelen s initial investigations into homogeneous coordination catalysts in oxo synthesis proved a source of much frustration (reviewed in [3]). It was only the work of Adkins and Krsek [6], Storch et al. [7], Berty and Markd [8] and Natta [9] that confirmed oxo catalysts to be homogeneous in nature. The intense activity associated with hydroformylation and oxo... [Pg.5]

Dr. S. L. Stafford (Alfa Inorganics) writes that I am unable to tell the difference from the method of preparation between the Lazier catalysts and the Adkins catalysts. They seem to be essentially identical and both are made in the same way as the material which we offer. Our copper chromate is a fine black powder of the formula indicated plus small amounts of barium chromate which may or may not be essential as the activator. The catalyst is stable to both air and moisture. ... [Pg.45]
