Adipose tissue aggregation

In a study of the electron microscopic anatomy of adipose tissue from alloxan diabetic rats, Sheldon et al. (19(11) noted that the capillary lumina contain abundant dense droplets which were believed to be chylomicrons. Two hours aft( r the administration of insulin to the diabetic rats, aggregate s of small droplets similar to the chylomicrons in the capillary lumina could be seem within the cells of the eipididymal fat pad. These aggregates did not have the same appearance as the fat droplets seen in normal fat cells or in e ells from re-fed animals, nor were the y seen in tissue from alloxan diabetic rats who had not reiceived insulin. Whether this observation indicates that insulin has an effect on the metabolism of chylomicrons by adipose tissue remains to be determined (Fig. 3). 

Tissues are an aggregate of similar cells together with their intercellular substances. In turn tissues combine to form the organs of the body. The major tissues of the body are (1) nervous tissue, (2) muscles, (3) skin, (4) blood cells, (5) fat or adipose, and (6) bone. 

The project was started with an existing model of metabolism in the cow, published and validated (Baldwin et al., 1987 referred to as Molly), which describes utilization of glucose, amino acids and fatty acids by muscle, adipose, visceral and mammary tissues at an aggregated metabolic pathway level. Elements of genetic background, response to nutritional environment and metabolic hormones are exphcitly embodied in equation forms and parameter values, such as maximal velocity, substrate sensitivity and control by anabolic and catabolic hormones.
