Additive algorithm

The corrosion inspection and wall thickness measurement of pipes was performed in the classical way both on film and on the monitor using simple software measuring tools. Additionally algorithms were developed for an interactive, computer supported evaluation. 

Predictions of high explosive detonation based on the new approach yield excellent results. A similar theory for ionic species model43 compares very well with MD simulations. Nevertheless, high explosive chemical equilibrium calculations that include ionization are beyond the current abilities of the Cheetah code, because of the presence of multiple minima in the free energy surface. Such calculations will require additional algorithmic developments. In addition, the possibility of partial ionization, suggested by first principles simulations of water discussed below, also needs to be added to the Cheetah code framework. 

Therefore, for large optimal control problems, the efficient exploitation of the structure (to obtain 0(NE) algorithms) still remains an unsolved problem. As seen above, the structure of the problem can be complicated greatly by general inequality constraints. Moreover, the number of these constraints will also grow linearly with the number of elements. One can, in fact, formulate an infinite number of constraints for these problems to keep the profiles bounded. Of course, only a small number will be active at the optimal solution thus, adaptive constraint addition algorithms can be constructed for selecting active constraints.

The subset seleetion can be performed iteratively. The first compound is chosen at random and the next compound is selected to be maximally dissimilar to the first the third is then selected to be maximally dissimilar to the first two, and so on. The selection stops when a prespecified number of compounds have been selected or no more compounds can be chosen that are below a given similarity or above a certain distance to another compound in the selected set. Pearlman (llb,c) refers to such methods as "addition" algorithms because they add compounds to a diverse set of increasing size. He notes that such algorithms are quite satisfactory when the size of the desired subset is relatively modest but, given that the time required for such algorithms is proportional to the size of the total population and the square of the size of the desired diverse subset, they are far less satisfactory when, for example, selecting a subset of 10,000 from a population of 1,000,000. 

Batch signing or batch verification [Fiat90, NRVR95, YeLa95] are additional algorithms to produce or verify several signatures together faster than separately.

It is worth remarking that this method cannot be implemented on its own in a program, rather certain additional (and less efficient) methods must be integrated with it to ensure convergence. These additional algorithms should be used whenever the inverse rational function interpolation encounters any difficulty.
