Adding functionality to the crowns

Two examples are included here, aza[15]crown-5 (16) and aza[18]crown-6 (17), prepared in a similar manner to the analogous all-oxygen crowns. Both reactions are templated around the appropriately sized alkali metal, as shown [Pg.46]

Triethylene glycol ditosylate (2) f-Butanol [FLAMMABLE] Sodium f-butoxide [CORROSIVE  [Pg.49]

4-dioxane [FLAMMABLE] Dichloromethane [TOXIC] Distilled water [Pg.49]

Anhydrous magnesium sulphate Diethyl ether [FLAMMABLE] [Pg.49]

This procedure should be carried out, wherever practical, in a fume hood as a large volume of flammable f-butanol is used. [Pg.49]
