Another widely used metric is the Kirton Adaption-Innovation Inventory. This is based on the Kirton Adaption-Innovation Theory, which considers that, before people can feel comfortable when tackling a problem they will differ amongst them on what structure they require and whether there is a need for a consensus on that structure. Another important factor is how important is the outcome of the problem solving, what is the reward or alternatively the punishment to be felt by the people concerned. This is called the cognitive style [C-50],... [Pg.158]

The key assumption of this theory is that there is a continuum of cognitive style, ranging from high adaption to high innovation, on which people can be placed dependent on the characteristic mode in which they solve problems (create or make decisions). The Kirton Adaption-Innovation Inventory (KAI) is the psychometric measurement devised to locate respondents on this continuum. It is concerned with the different ways in which people think, and particularly the way they show their creativity, solve problems and make decisions. Three sub traits, which are measured to give a total score, are explained as follows [C-51] ... [Pg.158]

If you want a more sophisticated way to determine cognitive style, use the Kirton Adaption-Innovation (KAI) Inventory, a highly validated and reliable psychometric instrument developed by psychologist Dr. Michael Kirton. Available at www.kaicentre.com, the KAI inventory works like this ... [Pg.54]

As a result, you are going to have to become quite adaptable, innovative, and agile in order to have a full and prosperous career. Product cycle times are coming down dramatically. Today they are measured in months, not years. And it wasn t so long ago that American business cycle times were operating in decades—in fact I was involved in one that took more than a decade. [Pg.94]

The zinc chloride cell, which was first patented in 1899, IS actually an adaptation of the Leclanche cell. The major innovation was the development of plastic seals that permitted the replacement of animoliitim chloride in the electrolyte. [Pg.118]

Before we can apply an adaptive filter, we should define a criterion to judge the validity of the model to describe the measurements. Such a criterion can be based on the innovation defined in Section 41.2. The concept of innovation, /, has been introduced as a measure of how well the filter predicts new observations ... [Pg.599]

The above example illustrates the self adaptive capacity of the Kalman filter. The large interferences introduced at the wavelengths 26 and 28 10 cm have not really influenced the end result. At wavelengths 26 and 28 10 cm , the innovation is large due to the interfered. At 30 10 cm the innovation is high because the concentration estimates obtained in the foregoing step are poor. However, the observation at 30 10 cm is unaffected by which the concentration estimates are restored within the true value. In contrast, the OLS estimates obtained for the above example are inaccurate (j , = 0.148 and JCj = 0.217) demonstrating the sensitivity of OLS for model errors. [Pg.600]
