For this study a selection of commercially available Activated charcoal wound dressings were assessed for their efSciency of odour adsorption. These dressings were ClarboflekS) ConvaTec, Lyofoam C SSL, Carbonet Smith Nephew, Sorbsan plus carbon ConvaTec, Actisorb Silver Johnson Johnson, Clinisorb CliniMed, Carbopad VC Vernon Cams, and a non odour adsorbent basic cessing Melolin Smith Nephew as a standard.

Actisorb Silver 220 appeared to prevent the prohferation of the organism within the dressing after a minimum contact time of 4 h. 

When used on infected wounds, Actisorb Silver 220 removes the microorganisms from the suspension and binds them to the surface of the charcoal fibers. These microorganisms remain viable for many hours, until they are progressively inactivated by the silver ions in the dressing.
