Acids Zirconium acetylacetonate

In contrast, allyl methacrylate is produced by the esterification of methacrylic acid and allyl alcohol (13), or by the transesterification of allyl alcohol with an ester of methacrylic acid, preferably with methyl methacrylate. The latter reaction is catalyzed with zirconium acetylacetonate (14). The esterification reactions are shown in Figure... [Pg.332]

Zirconium acetylacetonate was first prepared by Biltz and Clinch by the reaction of zirconyl nitrate and sodium acetylacetonate in water solution. The compound was crystallized as the 10-hydrate from a slightly acid solution and dehydrated by several crystallizations from alcohol. Von Hevesy and Logstrup later developed a method for the preparation of hafnium acetylacetonate that has been found applicable to the synthesis of the zirconium compound and this forms the basis of the present procedure. [Pg.121]

Thenoyltrifluoroacetone(TTA), C4H3S,CO,CH2,COCF3. This is a crystalline solid, m.p. 43 °C it is, of course, a /1-diketone, and the trifluoromethyl group increases the acidity of the enol form so that extractions at low pH values are feasible. The reactivity of TTA is similar to that of acetylacetone it is generally used as a 0.1-0.5 M solution in benzene or toluene. The difference in extraction behaviour of hafnium and zirconium, and also among lanthanides and actinides, is especially noteworthy. [Pg.170]

Higher amounts of zirconium (1.2 Zr/unit cell) could be incorporated in the MEL structure using Zr(IV) acetylacetonate as zirconium source without any precipitation during the gel preparation while ZrCU source could not be used beyond x > 0.01 as it yields material with low crystallinity (XRD), aggregated crystals (SEM) and non- homogenous gel during the synthesis. A higher catechol formation in Zr-Sil-2 (B) samples may be due to the surface acid sites. [Pg.224]

Intorre and Martell (237) have also studied the formation of mixed chelate species in which the zirconium 1 1 complex with the hexa-dentate chelating ligands, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, iV-hydroxy-ethylethylenediaminetriacetic acid, and m7 s-cyclohexanediaminetetra-acetic acid, are shown to take up one mole of the bidentate ligands, l,2-dihydroxybenzene-3,5-disulfonate l,8-dihydroxynaphthalene-3,6-disulfonate 8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulfonate, and acetylacetone (except ZrHEDTA), to form 8-coordinate 1 1 1 species. At least for the zir-conium-EDTA-l,2-dihydroxybenzene-3,5-disulfonate species, there is evidence for dimerization (230). Additionally, the Zr EDTA complex reacts with one mole of the bidentate ligands, 5-sulfosalicyclic acid, alizarin sulfonate, citric acid, and lactic acid to form 1 1 1 complexes tartaric acid and pyrophosphate ions form complexes which could not be identified. The zirconium-nitriloacetic acid complex in the presence of two moles of oxalic acid or l,2-dihydroxybenzene-3,5-sulfonate also forms 1 1 1 complexes in solution. [Pg.52]
