Acids vapor pressure

Acid Dew Point For fossil fuels, the acid dew point temperature is that temperature at which the actual mixed acid vapor pressure equals the mixed acid vapor saturation pressure. The mixed acid dew point can be approximated by the sulfuric acid dew point (Fig. 24-56). It can be described as a function of the SO3 and water content of the flue gas (Huijbregts). These concentrations result from the sulfur, hydrogen, and free water content of the fuel the relative humidity of the air and the amount of excess air used. The triple point of furoic acid is at 10.3 torr and 133 C. A sublimation at 124 C corresponding to a furoic acid vapor pressure of 5.5 torr, and a desublimation at 36 C corresponding to a furoic acid vapor pressure of 0.001 torr, result in a relative loss of only 0.001/5.5 = 0.00018 (0.018 %). 

The Antoine equation for acetic acid has recendy been revised (2) ln(P) = 15.19234 + (-3654.622) /T + (-45.392) The pressure P is measured in kPa and the temperature T in K. The vapor pressure of pure acetic acid is tabulated in Table 2. Precise liquid density measurements are significant for determining the mass of tank car quantities of acid. Assume extreme conditions (aerosol surface, aerosol liquid water content, aerosol organic carbon concentration) for these estimates and that the propionic acid vapor pressure is 0.005 atm. 

Competition between sulfate and nitrate for the available ammonia results in rather complicated system behavior.
