ACETYL HYDROPEROXIDE (79-21-0) Forms explosive mixture with air [flash point 100°F/38°C 105°F/41°C (40% solution in acetic acid)]. A powerful oxidizer and extremely shock- and friction-sensitive explosive. Thermally unstable, it decomposes violently at 230°F/110°C. May explode if concentration exceeds 56% of carrier, caused by evaporation. Reacts violently with many substances, including reducing agents, strong oxidizers. [Pg.21]

Substance Peracetic acid (Peroxyacetic acid acetyl hydroperoxide) CAS 79-21-0 Note Although other percarboxylic acids have different physical properties, their reactivity and toxicology are similar to those of peracetic acid. [Pg.372]

Experimentally the usual practice is to dissolve the rubber in a solvent such as chloroform, or, as generally preferred by more recent workers, methyl acetate and then to bubble into the solution a stream of oxygen containing about 2% of ozone for about 7 hours. The solvent is removed either by distillation under reduced pressure at room temperature or simply by evaporation. The residual ozonide is then hydrolyzed and the product oxidized by treatment with water containing about 3% hydrogen peroxide or with acetyl hydroperoxide. [Pg.116]
