Ozonolysis Products. Preliminary experiments showed that the ozon-olysis of 23 produced a number of highly reactive components such as bromine, acetyl bromide, and acetic acid. Therefore, a quantitative analysis of the crude reaction products by GLC was not feasible. NMR analysis, on the other hand, was easily possible since both the starting material and most of the products exhibited singlet signals that were well enough separated for quantitative analysis. Figure 4 shows the NMR spectrum of a crude ozonolysis product in which the substrate 23 had been completely converted.

Dihydro- and 2,3,5,6-tetrahydro-imidazo[2,l -6 ]thiazoles have been prepared in large numbers by condensation of phenacyl bromides with thiazolines followed by acetylation, sodium borohydride reduction, and ring closure with thionyl chloride and acetic anhydride (Scheme 2) <77JMC563, 66JMC545).
