Acetone, addition reactions lifetimes

The atmospheric lifetime of 2,4-dimethyl-2-pentanol with respect to reaction with OH radicals is estimated to be 10 h using [OH] = 2.5 x 10 molecule cm and the rate coefficient presented in this section. The product study conducted by Atkinson and Aschmann (1995) using GC-FK) and GC-MS showed that the reaction of OH with 2,4-dimethyl-2-pentanol gives the following products (molar yields) Acetone (92 15%), 2-methylpropanal (21 22%), 4-methyl-2-pentanone (5 1%), and 4-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-pentanone (12 2%). In addition, the yield of a tertiary nitrate was estimated to be 4 1%. [Pg.179]

Using the rate coefficients measured by hnamura et al. (2004) and Noda et al. (2002), the calculated atmospheric lifetimes with respect to removal via reactions with OH and NO3 are approximately 1 h and 6 min., respectively. The expected major products of the reaction of OH with 3-methyl-2-buten-l-ol in the presence of NOj are acetone and glycolaldehyde as co-products following OH addition to either end of the double bond in the alcohol. [Pg.208]

Citronellol is very reactive towards atmospheric oxidants its atmospheric lifetime is estimated to be around 1 h with respect to reaction with either O3 or OH radicals. The reaction of OH with citronellol proceeds mainly by OH addition to the C=C double bond. Ham et al. (2006) reported acetone and 6-hydroxy-4-methylhexanal as major products of the reaction following the mechanism presented in figure n-D-25. These authors also observed glyoxal [HC(0)C(0)H] and methyl glyoxal [CH3C(0)C(0)H] as products. The same products have been also observed for the reaction of O3 with citronellol. [Pg.232]
