AC in accordance to European standards

AC in the European Union (EU) is designed in accordance with CEN EN 13108-1 (2008). The standard provides the general requirements of the constituent materials and of the AC mixture, as well as evaluation of conformity requirements. It does not provide a composition method (mix design). 

The first, known as the empirical approach, specifies AC in terms of compositional recipes and requirements for constituent materials with additional requirements based on performance-related tests. These requirements are given in Sections 5.4.1.3 and 5.4.1.4. 

As experience is gained with performance-based testing, the aim of the specification is to specify AC in terms of only fundamental performance-based properties. 

The standard CEN EN 13108-1 (2008) covers all types of AC from dense- to open-graded mixtures.
